We drive from Playa del Carmen south to Bacalar, the Lagoon of the 7 colors. You can still sleep a while on the bus until we
arrive. The town of Bacalar was founded by the Mayans in 415 A.C. I's original name was "Bakhalal" and it was the first town taken by the Conquistadores in 1543. The Spanish called
the city "Salamanca de Bacalar". When arriving in Bacalar we enjoy a big breakfast with fresh fruit, coffee and juice with a fantastic view over the market place
Thereafter we explore the history of pirate fort San Felipe. Experience the history of the pirates on a guided tour through the
ancient walls and the small museum. The Mexican people built it in 1723 to protect themselves from pirates who raided the place several times, kidnapping the Mayan women, and bringing them to
Isla Mujeres. The panoramic view over the cannon guns on the opposite channel of the pirates is uniquely beautiful and brings up memories of old films. There, you can look down onto
the freshwater lake, which is 55 km long and 2 km wide. The water is, in some places, only 20 cm deep and the ground has a fantastic, fine, sandy, and white texture. This shimmers
in 7 different shades of turquoise. It is a paradise on earth, like the shore of the Maldives, with it’s many thatched rood huts
Afterwards, we will go to the shore of the lagoon and enjoy the beauty of the Lagoon of the 7 colors and their different cenotes on a 4-hour
relaxed pontoon (flat boat) boat trip with various bathing stops in the turquoise waters. You will quickly arrive into another world, just let your mind wander. We will drive past
beautiful villas to the bird island, where we can even experience Storks with luck. There are many Frigate birds, Herons, Spoonbills, and Cormorants in the wild. A breathtaking,
beautiful, spectacle of colors
Continue through the lagoon until you reach a narrow channel that flows into the Caribbean Sea, the "Canal de los Piratas" (Pirate
Channel). We will drop the anchor and stay in the knee-deep, dreamy clear, turquoise-colored, fresh water for bathing, relaxing, and having fun. Rubbing each other with healing mud
is extremely fun and the mood is always exuberant. Afterwards we wash everything off in the turquoise clear water (the brave ones can jump from a platform into the water). Together
we will enjoy the time aboard the boats or in the water, take unforgettable photos, have drinks with music, and good moods. Let´s dance!
After hearing and learning about many exciting pirate stories and having fun bathing experiences in the lakes and cenotes, we will then enjoy
fresh stone oven pizza at the restaurant. On the way home to Playa del Carmen, let us treat ourselves to one or more drinks on the bus.
Pirates of the Caribbean? Or a feeling like Maldives? Or both? 7 different tones of turquoise and cristal clear freshwater invite us to
swim and relax - enjoy the magic of the lagoon with us!
Together we walk around the center of Bacalar and experience the history of the little town. We give lots of info about what happened here back
in the days and we take some photos in front of the BACALAR sign. Thereafter we walk into the fort of San Felipe and get the first breathtaking view over the lagoon - also called Maldives of
Mexico. Inside we learn about the history of the fort, it's inhabitants and their fights with the pirates back in
the days
